Diva #286

This week's Diva challenge is a quick draw for me today as I'm just about to go away for a couple of days. The trip is just me and my car, Bertie. Bliss. Look out for photos next week.

Anyway, this week the Diva challenged us to use straight lines. I thought I'd quickly do a spiral. Alas, box spirals are hard to draw free hand. Here's my first fail (I had a second using a ruler which turned out even worse!).

Below is my third attempt. All the tangles are fragments from the Zentangle Primer, except for the tiny red paradoxes in the corner squares.

Zentangle Journal

This entry incorporates fragments from the Zentangle Primer and layering of tangles covered in one of Eni Oken's books.

Other drawing

Staying with Eni Oken, I have some of her shading guides. For a change in pace for myself, I tried to follow her instruction closely. Normally I use instructions as a rough guide.

Here is Tri-Roda and Aquafleur shaded as per Eni's guide. The only ink in the Aquafleur is in the outlines of the shape. The dark bands are graphite.

Lunch date

This coming weekend is our 22nd wedding anniversary. To celebrate The Husband had a couple of days away, or 'down the coast' in local Canberran speak.

We had lunch at Rick Stein's Bannisters by the Sea. Rick Stein is an English celebrity chef. He's made lots of cooking shows, owns a few world class restaurants and writes cook books.

Lunch at Bannisters was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. The was simple, complex, fresh, tasty, textual, lovely. Here are some photos.

Have a great week.

I like your straight lined spiral! That's quite hard to draw I think, well done!

Me too, like to use the fragments as they are showed in the Primer. I like the straight lined spiral in your tile for this challenge.
Beautiful work in your Zentangle Journal and congrats with your 22 nd wedding anniversary!

I actually like the first straight line tile. Simple and nice on the spattered background. Nice to see some of the fragments too. Your food looks yummy! Congrats on your anniversary.

Congratulations on your anniversary. It looks like you picked a good place to celebrate. I like your straight line "spiral" with the red Paradox squares. One of the paradoxes of Paradox is that the straight lines produce curves. I wish I had the discipline to keep a Zentangle journal. I just have pieces of paper all over the place.

I like the final result of the Diva Challenge very much. It came out a bit like a beautiful quilt block.

Happy anniversary!
Your persistence with the block spiral paid off I think, and I love your journal work. I just purchased aeni Oken's layering book too.

Oh! I hope you didn't toss that first attempt. It could become something very special. But your finished Diva challenge tile is terrific. i also love that Aquafleur. The graphite gives it a fluid look that I really like. Well done, and congrats on your anniversary. Such fun to enjoy a gourmet meal, where you want to look at it as much as eat it!

All of your work here is a pleasure to look at. Your first box spiral is not bad at all. I think it's a lot more interesting when things are on the wonky side;-) I really love your sketchbook piece. That's such a fun combination. I've been doing that in my sketchbook too (the stacked tile outline). Thanks for sharing your adventures with fragments. I don't have the book and don't foresee owning one in the near future, so I like following along with you;-) Thanks for your visits to my blog and the lovely comments. I truly appreciate your feedback;-) Happy Tangling and Happy Anniversary!
